ROLLA, MO. – Despite a career-high 25 points from
Dewayne Vass, the Maryville men's basketball team fell short of stopping league-leading Missouri S&T as the Miners prevailed 88-78. Vass knocked down a career-best four 3-pointers and led four players who scored in double figures.
Anthony Holden finished with 20 points,
Francisco Espinosa chipped in 12 points, while
Luke Williams added 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Vass scored Maryville's first bucket of the game, and Holden's triple put the Saints on top. Vass' score closed the 7-0 run as Maryville took the 7-2 lead. The Saints stayed in front, and the Miners got back to within one point. Williams knocked down a turnaround jumper, followed by a
Lawrence Brazil III triple, and another jumper by Williams made it 25-17. Vass made two free throws, and a Holden layup made it 34-28. However, the Miners went on a 12-3 run to take the lead. Â Vass tallied 15 points in the first half as the Saints were down just 46-43 after the opening 20 minutes.

The Miners inched out to a 52-46 lead before Holden scored and Williams converted a free throw to pull the Saints back to within three. The hosts tallied six straight points to rebuild a 58-49 margin. Holden stopped the run with a layup before Vass threw down a dunk and added a layup to draw Maryville to within 58-55 with 12 minutes to play. Missouri S&T answered with an 11-0 run and took a 69-55 lead. Holden halted the run with a triple to keep the Saints close. The Miners tacked on a 10-3 burst and remained unbeaten in GLVC play.
