ST. LOUIS – Ella Brinkmann recorded 18 kills with 23 digs while hitting .356 to pace the Maryville volleyball team's fourth straight victory. The Saints downed Lewis 25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22. Ella Domain chipped in 14 kills and three blocks. Emma Hoing contributed 11 kills and chipped into the defense with two digs. On the back row, Olivia Klump paced the defense with 26 digs, while Cami Kohmetscher handed out a season-best 23 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis led in the first set 13-12 before the Saints reeled off five straight points. Brinkmann started the run with a kill, and Ellie Witthaus served an ace. After a kill by Brinkmann, Domian and Lynsey Batson had a block. Another Brinkmann kill pushed the Saints ahead 17-13. The Saints built a 21-16 edge on block by Brinkmann and Longanbach. The teams traded points as the Saints took the opening set 25-20.
 
Lewis scored five of the first six points in set two as the Saints tried to rally. Maryville got the deficit down to one point on three occasions but never drew even as the Flyers evened the match. In the third set, the Saints slowly built a small edge and grabbed a 15-8 lead on a Lewis error. Emma Hoing put down a kill and a Lewis miscue made it 20-14. The Flyers made a late charge and cut the deficit to 23-21. Lewis committed a service error to push the Saints to set point. The Flyers saved two but hit the ball out as the Saints won the set 25-23.
 
In the final set, the Saints grabbed a 14-11 lead. The Flyers answered with four points to surge ahead. Maryville scored three straight on a Lewis error, a kill by Hoing and an ace by Longanbach for a 17-15 advantage. The teams traded the next eight points until Maryville got kills by Domian and Brinkmann to grab a 22-19 cushion. Lewis scored three of the next four points to pull to within 23-22. Hoing's kill was good for match point. On the final sequence of the night, the Saints won after a long rally as Hoing's kill ended the match 25-22.
