ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's soccer team dropped its first game of the season, falling 4-1 to the McKendree Bearcats.
Sophia Carter was the lone scorer for the Saints, finding the net in the 27th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bearcats opened the match with early pressure, earning three corner kicks in the first few minutes and converting on the third to take a 1-0 lead. The Saints responded with shots from
Allison Estanich and
Reese Cannon, but neither was able to convert.
McKendree extended their lead to 3-0 before Carter put Maryville on the board, tallying her fourth goal of the season to make it 3-1 heading into halftime.
The Saints came out aggressive after the break, forcing the McKendree goalkeeper into four saves, but couldn't close the gap. The Bearcats added one final goal in the 78th minute to seal the 4-1 result.
