INDIANAPOLIS – It was a career day in the Circle City for freshman
Carissa Speight of the Maryville women's soccer team, who tallied the first and second goals of her career to lead the Saints to a 2-0 victory over the University of Indianapolis.
The Saints have now outscored the Greyhounds 9-0 over their last three meetings and are unbeaten in the last six matchups.
Sophia Carter notched two assists in the win, while
Emily Doane added her second assist of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
On the cold, rain-covered turf of Key Stadium, the ball moved quickly as the Saints dominated possession in the Greyhounds' half throughout the first half. Maryville fired 14 shots while not allowing a single attempt from UIndy. In the 30th minute, a corner kick found its mark as Speight tucked it home for the opener.
Despite the abundance of chances, the score remained 1-0 at halftime. That changed early in the second half when another corner in the 56th minute led to Speight's second goal of the day.
At the final whistle, the Saints totaled 30 shots to UIndy's three, with 15 different players registering an attempt.
