ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's soccer team notched a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over Lewis University on Friday evening at Lonnie Folks Field, using a pair of second-half goals to grab their seventh clean sheet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Saints (9-1-4, 7-1-3 GLVC) broke through in the 60th minute when
Emily Doane scored her first goal of the year.
Gina Catanzaro sent a well-placed pass into the box that found Doane, who slotted it home with an assist also credited to
Ashlyne Hunt.
Maryville continued to apply pressure, outshooting Lewis 24-7 and earning eight corner kicks over the full match. The sustained attack paid off in the 83rd minute when
Sophia Carter doubled the lead, again set up by Catanzaro for her second assist of the evening.
Goalkeeper
Agnes Vilen needed just one save to record her seventh shutout of the campaign as the Saints' defense limited the Flyers to a single shot on goal.
