ST. LOUIS – Senior day was a resounding success for Maryville women's soccer as they clipped the wings of the Upper Iowa Peacocks, winning 3-0. The shutout marks the third-straight and the fourth-straight win for the Saints.
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig (1) and
Helene Braren (2) were the two goal scorers in the 3-0 victory, with Braren tallying one in each half.
After the game, the Saints honored their seniors, including
Gina Catanzaro,
Lauren Dickhut and Nilson-Hurtig.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints struck first in the 27th minute when Nilson-Hurtig buried a penalty kick to give Maryville an early edge. Maryville doubled its advantage just before halftime as
Helene Braren finished off a pass from
Carissa Speight in the 45th minute.
Braren added her second goal of the afternoon midway through the second half, this time converting an assist from
Allison Estanich in the 68th minute to secure the win.
Maryville dominated every facet of the match, outshooting the Peacocks 33-2 and earning 14 corner kicks while holding Upper Iowa without a shot on goal. Goalkeeper
Agnes Vilen went untested in her fifth shutout of the season.
