QUINCY, Ill. - Maryville women's soccer scored an early goal, but it wasn't enough as the Saints settled for a 1–1 tie against the Quincy Hawks.
Sophia Carter netted her seventh goal of the season, while
Agnes Vilen recorded four saves on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints opened the game playing sharp, attacking soccer, which led to an early goal off a throw-in near the end line.
Ashlyne Hunt delivered a long throw into the box,
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig flicked it on, and
Sophia Carter connected with a volley to score. Maryville continued to press, generating three more shots on target in the first half while holding the Hawks to just one.
The second half got off to a fast start, as Quincy scored just 20 seconds in off a long ball over the top. The match became a physical contest, with chances arising for both teams. In the 57th minute, Hunt came close to putting Maryville back on the scoreboard with a header that went just over the crossbar. The remainder of the game saw few clear opportunities, and it ended in a 1–1 draw.
