Saints Score Four to Down Truman State, Clinch Home Field Advantage

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Maryville women's soccer team clinched third place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after a 4-2 victory over the Truman State Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo.

With the win, the Saints will host a tournament quarterfinal next Sunday, marking the fourth-year in a row Maryville will hold home field advantage for the opening round.

Four different Maryville players found the back of the net, highlighted by first-half scores from Gina Catanzaro and Reese Cannon, the later of two being the first of her collegiate career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Just five minutes in, Catanzaro put the Saints ahead with a powerful 25-yard shot into the top-left corner. The Bulldogs responded in the 27th minute to tie the match at 1-1. In the 36th minute, Helene Braren delivered a pass to Reese Cannon, who put Maryville back in front before the halftime break.

The Saints extended their lead in the second half. Ashlyne Hunt converted a breakaway opportunity in the 55th minute after a long ball from Sophia Carter, placing the ball under the Truman goalkeeper.

The final Maryville goal came in the 70th minute from a free kick by Allison Estanich, with Emily Doane getting a touch and sending it into the back of the net. Truman scored again in the 85th minute after a scramble in the box, making the score 4-2.
