Volleyball Team Sees Three-Match Win Streak End as UMSL Remains Unbeaten in GLVC Play

NORMANDY, MO. - Maryville volleyball saw its three-match winning streak end at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 25-17, 25-19, 20-25, 25-15, Saturday afternoon at the Mark Twain Building. Ella Brinkmann led the Saints with 12 kills and added 12 digs, while Ella Domian and Emma Hoing finished with nine and eight kills, respectively. Olivia Klump led the defensive efforts with 24 digs.

How it Happened
The Saints hit nearly .300 over the first two sets but Tritons hit more than .400 to take a 2-0 lead. Maryville's defense slowed the Tritons in the third set to pull one score back. Down 5-4, the Saints scored nine straight points to surge ahead. Domian started the run before Brinkmann served an ace. After another Domian kill, a block by Hoing and Hailey Levinson preceded two straight UMSL errors. Brinkmann served up an ace that pushed the Saints on top 13-5. The Tritons pulled to within four but Maryville used a 5-1 run and held on for the win.

The Saints led early in set four and went up 8-6 after a kill by Hoing. The Tritons went ahead before an error and a kill by Levinson pulled the Saints to within 11-10. UMSL rebuilt an 18-12 edge until the Saints made one late run. The Tritons had an error, and a solo block by Domian and another by Hoing and Leslie Longanbach cut the deficit to 18-15. However, the Saints never got any closer as the Tritons held on to remain unbeaten in the league.

Longanbach delivered another strong performance at the net, pounding nine kills on .400 hitting and contributing a team-best four blocks. She was instrumental in the Saints' third-set turnaround, teaming with Lily Brown and Ella Domian for key stuffs that slowed the Tritons' offense. Setter Cami Kohmetscher finished with 16 assists and 13 digs, while Taylor Reynolds had 22 assists and 11 digs.
