ST. LOUIS – Maryville women's soccer celebrated its 2025 homecoming with a tight-as-nails match against cross-town foe, Missouri-St. Louis, on Sunday afternoon. The Saints after tallying a goal in the third minute of action, settled for a tie after playing nearly the full second half down a player.
Allision Estanich tallied her second goal of the season, blasting a ball from 20 yards out to the top of the frame for the lone Maryville goal of the match.
Helene Braren and
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig were credited with the assists on the play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In just the third minute of play, the Saints held the lead, picking up a goal off the bullet by Estanich. Play was back and forth from there with Nilson-Hurtig taking three shots and
Emily Doane adding her own in the first half as the Saints trailed 6-5 in shots going into the break.
A second yellow on Nilson-Hurtig in the 50th minute of play resulted in the Saints being forced to play man down for the final 45 minutes of action. The defense held as long as they could with a foul in the box in the 63rd minute resulting in a tie contest.
The defense of both squads held until the end with several dangerous chances by the Tritons being thwarted by
Agnes Vilen and her back line.
