ST. LOUIS – In its home opener, the Maryville women's basketball team dominated Hannibal-LaGrange in an 89-32 decision.
Lindsey Schadewalt sank five 3-pointer and led four Saints in double figures with 23 points.
Claire Lueken finished with 14 points, while
Bree Shannon and
Olivia Hahn added 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Maryville defense clamped down on HLG and held the visitors to 28.6 percent shooting, including just three field goals after halftime

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints scored the final 13 points of the first quarter to grab a 21-11 edge following the first 15 minutes. Schadewalt hit two free throws, and
Liz Behan scored on a layup. Lueken drained a triple and a layup, with
Bree Shannon scoring on consecutive trips. The Saints opened the second stanza on an 8-1 burst to take command. HLG tried to stay close but
Alicia Burgos powered up for a layup, and an
Annika Pluemer triple made it 35-17. Maryville scored nine of the last 10 points to take a 46-24 lead at intermission.

The Saints pulled away in the third, outscoring the Trojans 24-4 in the period. Maryville's defense kept up the pressure as the Trojans managed just one field goal in the final 15 minutes.
Helen Ben led the efforts on the glass with eight rebounds, while
Liz Behan snared six boards.
Gracie Gopalan had six assists as the Saints finished with 22 assists to just 10 turnovers.
