Rigdon's Career-High 33 Points Shoots Saints Past Adams State 71-60

TYLER, TEXAS – A career-high 33 points from Madyson Rigdon boosted the Maryville women's basketball team to a 71-60 victory over Adams State. Rigdon hit 13-of-20 shots from the field and five 3-pointers to easily surpass her previous career best of 21 points. She scored 13 points in the first quarter and had reached her career high by halftime with 27, which matched the total by Adams State. Adylan Ayer added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Gracie Gopalan dished out seven assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rigdon scored the first basket of the game, and after ASU tied the score, led a 13-1 burst. She sandwiched two 3-pointers around a layup by Gopalan. Lindsey Schadewalt knocked down a jumper before Rigdon found the range from deep against for a 15-3 lead. Another jumper was her 13th point in a four-minute span as the Saints built a 21-10 lead after the first. Rigdon kept her offensive explosion going as she scored on the first possession of the second, and following a layup by Alicia Burgos, knocked down a jumper to build the margin to 27-13. Adams scored five straight but Rigdon answered with a 3-pointer. The Grizzlies again used a 5-0 run but Rigdon drained her fifth 3-pointer of the half to keep the Saints up by double digits. Maryville stayed ahead, and a jumper by Rigdon in the final minute capped her first 20 minutes as the Saints took a 41-27 lead at halftime.
 
ASU closed the gap to eight before Ayer and Olivia Hahn hit back-to-back 3-pointers. Ayer had a three-point play before Rigdon scored three straight baskets. She had a layup and added two jumpers as the Saints took a 60-45 lead into the final quarter. The Saints put the game away with seven unanswered points midway through the fourth. Ayer scored on consecutive possessions and a Burgos triple made it 69-50 with four minutes to play. The Saints held on down the stretch to close out their trip to Texas on an upswing.
 
The last player to score 33 points in a game was Antoinette Mussorici who did so at Truman State Jan. 26, 2023.
