ST. LOUIS – The Maryville men's basketball celebrated it's six seniors today before it's Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) contest with the Lewis Flyers. The Saints, despite only trailing by two heading into halftime, fell 100-70 after a strong second half for the Flyers.
SENIOR DAY
The six seniors included
Lawrence Brazil III,
Anthony Holden,
Dewayne Vass,
Davis Walker,
Darrius Washington and
Luke Williams. Brazil III, a newcomer to the Saints, has appeared in twenty games for the Saints this season, scoring a season high 14 against Culver-Stockton. Holden who has been with the Saints for two seasons has garnered 32 starts over 47 games played, scoring 343 points in that time.
Vass, a three-year member of Maryville, has had an impact on both scoring and passing, scoring 791 points while tallying 282 assists. Walker, the elder statesmen of the Saints with five seasons played while wearing the Big Red M, has played in 77 games with 31 starts. Washington, another newcomer to the Lou, has appeared in nine games after battling injuries. Finally, Williams has been the leading scorer for the Saints with 593 over the past two seasons, hitting 76 three's.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints went blow for blow with the stout Flyers in the first half with Maryville shooting 48 percent from the field in the first twenty minutes of play. However, the fatigue of a shortened bench caught up to the Saints in the second half as Lewis caught fire from the field, shooting a scorching hot 71 percent with a 70 percent mark from beyond the arc.
Lucas Burton dropped a team leading twenty points, while both Brazil III, Holden and Williams added double-digit performances on their senior day.
