TOPEKA, Kan. – It was a rough day for the Maryville softball team as it was mercy ruled in both of it's contests at the Washburn Invitational. The first bout saw the Pitt State Gorillas no-hit the Saints batters, only allowing two base runners all game. Game two did not fare better as Missouri Western unleashed a 6-run fourth inning to win 8-0.
GAME 1 | PSU 9, MU 0
The pitching of the Gorillas was the story of the Saints' first game in Topeka, Kan., as PSU's Aydenne Brown produced a five-inning no-hitter which included 11 strikeouts.
Mandi Lenon and
Jenna Kosnoff were the lone Saints to be able to reach base in the contest.
GAME 2 | MWSU 8, MU 0
The bats stayed cold for game two of the invite, as hits by Kosnoff and Lenon and a walk by
Kaitlyn Wagner resulting in the lone action the Saints had on the base paths. The Griffons used a massive six-run fourth inning to ice the game and incite the mercy rule.
