INDIANAPOLIS – Maryville baseball has been voted to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, per the GLVC preseason coaches' poll, the league office announced on Friday.
Â
The preseason poll is determined by the league's head coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own team.
Â
The Saints tallied three first-place votes alongside 174 total points after capturing their second ever league title in 2024.
Pat Evers' squad advanced to their second-straight NCAA tournament after a 40-19 record and a 26-10 GLVC mark.
Â
27 players return from the 2024 Maryville squad, including
Camden Ruby,
Michael Long and
Dominic Sharp who sit as the offense with the most amount of at bats last season.
Â
Ruby, who played in 44 of the Saints 59 contests, carried a .311 average, with a .884 OPS as well. Long is right there with Ruby, carrying a .922 OPS over 33 games played, adding 14 extra base hits to his name. Sharp a sophomore outfielder from Booneville, Ind. was just under 100 at bats, working a .815 OPS to his name.
Â
The returning backstop for the Saints sits withÂ
Matt Arnold who carried a .991 fielding percentage over 235 chances. He'll help manage a pitching staff that is headed up byÂ
Ben Gregory who tallied 15 starts on the mound last season, including a win over Trevecca Nazarene in the NCAA tournament.
Â
The Saints begin their season on the road at Pittsburg State with a three-game set starting on Feb. 14 in Pittsburg, Kan.
