JOPLIN, Mo. – The Maryville softball team, after its GLVC opening weekend, headed west to Joplin, Mo., for a non-conference midweek doubleheader with the Missouri Southern State Lions, dropping both contests. The Lions took game one 8-0, while Maryville kept it close in game two, falling a run short for the 4-3 result.Â
GAME 1 | MISSOURI SOUTHERN ST. 8, MARYVILLE 0
The Lions jumped out early, plating two runs in the first, with off a home run, before adding five more in the second frame, including a bases-clearing double. Another run in the third amounted to the scoring as the Saints were held to just three base runners all contest.Â
GAME 2 | MISSOURI SOUTHERN ST. 4, MARYVILLE 3
After three innings, the score was set at 2-2, with both
Jenna Kosnoff and
Isabella Garcia grabbing RBIs.Â
Maryville took its second lead of the ballgame in the fourth inning, with some tricky baserunning allowing Caitlyn Gdowski to swipe home for the go-ahead run. That lead did not last an inning as the home team plated a run in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth to find the final.Â
