ST. LOUIS – The Maryville M1 Hockey team saw it's run at the ACHA National Tournament come to a close in the quarterfinals, falling to eventual tournament champion No. 2 UNLV by a score of 3-2 in OT.
Â
The Saints began their tournament run with a dominant effort over Northwood, hammering the Timberwolves with a 4-1 result. A double-overtime victory over No. 7-seeded Niagara sent the Saints to the quarters.
Â
The Saints end a historic 2024-25 season ranked No. 6 in the country with a record of 21-10-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Against the Timberwolves, the Saints were relentless, taking 37 shots to Northwood's 13, with
James Vermeersch and
Chad McIlwain both scoring while
Jackson Zloty brought home a double-goal performance.
Â
The offense stayed pushing as
Sam Edwards himself had two goals in regulation against Niagara. Unable to break the tie, it came down to two-overtime periods, with a
Jack Henderson bullet with just 2:46 left in the period being the dagger and winner.
Â
Battling ACHA-powerhouse UNLV, the Saints commanded the game through the first two periods, amounting to a 2-0 lead. But the Rebels fought right back, forcing OT with just 1:39 left. That momentum carried the Rebels to victory and the eventual ACHA MI title.
Â
Parker Sawka was between the posts for the Saints in all three contests, stopping 49 of 52 shots versus UNLV.

COACHES' CORNERÂ
Head Coach John Hogan on the teams effort and performance…
"Immensely proud of our group this past week and weekend. The way they competed, battled, and fought for one another was something to behold. Through a challenging year at times, to see them come together the last 4 weeks and play that well … so happy, proud, and heartbroken that it had to end the way it did. But, to make the quarterfinals is an accomplishment and the farthest our program has ever gone in this tournament."
Hogan on what his senior class means to the program…
"Our seniors
Jake Chartier,
Lucas Adams,
Garrett Hunter, and
Jaxon White should be proud of what they've help build the past 4 or 5 years. A lot to be proud of! It will be a building block for all teams in the future and will hopefully fuel us as we move forward into the next season."
