ST. LOUIS – The Maryville baseball team dropped game one of its four game set of its regional rematch with the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, 11-7.
Josh Herget went 2-4 in the box, while
Aaris Stolte led all Saints with two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Herget was the first batter to cross home, with a bunt fielded by the Greyhound catcher being thrown away, allowing the first run to score.
UIndy set the tone for the day as they responded with a two-spot in the third. That was the story of the ball game as every time the Saints plated runs, UIndy did the same. The teams traded four-run innings in the bottom of the fourth and the top of the fifth leaving it 6-5 UIndy into the bottom of the fifth.
Stolte and
Jace Burton combined for another two runs in the fifth, retaking the lead as
Braden Smith's Day on the mound concluded.
The Greyhounds found an answer a half inning later, with two big extra base hits resulting in a three-run top of the sixth. UIndy added on two more runs to find the final 11-7 result.
