ST. LOUIS – Senior day was a big success for Maryville baseball as it avenged its game two loss with two big wins on Friday.
Â
The Saints took game one 5-1 behind a complete game by
Ben Gregory. The second saw
Josh Herget, as a member of the senior class, go off for five RBIs, including a second-inning grand slam to help find the 11-1 score.
Ty Rauser was the pitching performance of the day, notching a new season high for the Saints in strikeouts versus his old squad, punching out 12 on the day.
Â
Before the action got started, the Saints celebrated a group of seniors that included,
Matt Arnold,
Nathan Beaton,
Cole Christman, Herget,
Griffin King,
Michael Long,
Cameron Macon,
Victor Quinn,
Philip Reinhardt,
Camden Ruby and
Ambrose Russo.

GAME 1 | Maryville 5, Truman 1
Gregory was simply dominant on the mound, tossing the second complete game of the weekend for the Saints. High fastball control and velocity carried him to a four-hit game, with just one blemish, that came in the sixth frame.
Â
Nick Daugherty got the Saints on the board in the fourth, hammering one to left center, scoring two. Macon and
Dominic Sharp built on that, leaving it a 5-0 lead after the fourth.
Â
GAME 2 | Maryville 11, Truman 1
Early and often was the mantra for game two as Ruby, who rested in game one, got his senior day going with an RBI single in the first. Herget added a sac fly to leave it 2-0 after one. A throwing error by the Bulldog's catcher allowed Arnold to trot home.
Â
A Sharp hit by pitch and a Ruby walk loaded the bases for Herget, who broke some bad luck with a grand slam to blow it wide open.
Â
Â
Another fielding error in the third made it 8-1 after the Bulldogs grabbed a run in the top half of the inning.
Aaris Stolte grabbed two more RBIs, one in the fourth and one in the sixth to leave it 11-1 for the run rule.
Â
For Rauser, he was, much like Gregory, was untouchable on his heater, mowing down 12 on just two hits and two walks. He finished the game with just 98 pitches.
