QUINCY, Ill. – Ben Gregory and
Ty Rauser combined for 14 innings of scoreless baseball today in Quincy, Ill. as the Maryville baseball team took the 2-1 series lead at QU Stadium.
Gregory's victory came with some added meaning, tying the program record for wins in a career, giving him the opportunity to take soul ownership of that mark next weekend at UMSL. He tossed five strikeouts while allowing just three hits on route to his first complete game shutout of the season. The gem marked his fifth-straight appearance going six or more and his third-straight complete game.
Rauser, seeing the example set by BG, one upped him, going all seven with nine punchies on three hits. It's the second-straight complete game for Rauser, with him having 21 strikeouts over his last 14 innings of work. He now leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Saints with 76 Ks.

Camden Ruby gave the Saints the lead in the first with an RBI groundout on just the fourth at bat of the game. After that, it was pure domination from BG, who escaped jams in the second and fourth to keep the lead alive.
A leadoff bomb by
Cole Christman, his team-leading 11th of the year, in the sixth gave Gregory some more cushion that went unneeded. Quality defense in the bottom of the sixth erased a baserunner, with
Matt Arnold gunning down a runner at third to finish the frame.
A one-two-three bottom of the seventh marked completion for Gregory and the tying of the series.
GAME 2 | Maryville 1, Quincy 0
The Hawks continued to fail to fly against the arms of the Saints as Rauser shoved through seven. He struck out one batter every inning, minus the fourth, with him tallying two in both the sixth and the seventh, with the last two outs of the game coming via the K.
Nick Daugherty plated the lone run on an RBI groundout in the fourth to find the winning score.
