Saints Survives Series Finale Slugfest at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – After back-to-back shutouts on Saturday, the script was flipped for Maryville baseball as it needed a massive seven-run eighth inning to find the series clincher at Quincy on Sunday.

Every starter for the Saints recorded a hit, with eight of nine starters recording an RBI in a game that was decided 17-14. Cole Christman played the hero, blasting the go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning. He was joined in the home run club by Josh Herget and Matt Arnold.

Noah Harbin got a massive confidence boost out of the 'penn, tossing two scoreless frames for his fourth save of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite scoring in each of the first three innings, the Hawks led the Saints 7-3 after a big seven-run third for QU. The big inning finally came in the fifth for the Dawgs, with Jace Burton kicking it off with an RBI single. Brady Kindhart and Ambrose Russo kept it going with their own run-scoring hits before a wild pitch plated the tying run.

Quincy quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth, a lead that did not last even one batter in the sixth as Herget blasted a leadoff bomb.

The balls continued to leave the yard as Quincy used a three run shot in the sixth to make it 12-9 in their favor. Another extra base hit in the seventh ballooned it to 14-9.

Down five, Aaris Stolte dropped it to four with an RBI groundout. An RBI single by Russo, a wild pitch left it 14-12 with Christman coming to the plate. That was the last time the Hawks held the lead as he belted one over the short wall in right for the lead.

After another wild pitch, the final score sat 16-14 in favor of the Saints.

That is where Harbin went to work, getting six straight outs, including a strikeout to end the game in the ninth.
