Justin Simonson scored with 25 seconds left in overtime as the No. 6 seed Maryville men's lacrosse team upset No. 2 seed Limestone 13-12 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. Maryville advances to the NCAA Tournament semifinals to play at No. 1 seed Tampa, Sunday, May 18, at Noon CT / 1 p.m. ET, in Tampa, Fla. The winner of that contest will earn a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship game Sunday, May 25, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 11-10 entering the fourth quarter, Maryville pulled even when
Ben Mickett scored from the right side with just under 11 minutes to play. Both defenses stood tall as the game remained deadlocked at 11-11. Limestone took the lead with 3:57 to go but Maryville had the answer. After two attempts, Maryville forced a turnover with one minute to play. In the waning seconds, Simonson rocketed in the tying goal with just 11 seconds to play to tie the game at 12-12. Maryville won the following faceoff and nearly won it at the buzzer but had a shot saved.

In overtime, Limestone won the first faceoff and rang an attempt off the post. Maryville had its first shot saved as the hosts got the ball back. Maryville's defense forced a turnover to get regain possession. In the last minute of OT, Maryville had a shot saved but retained the ball and drew a penalty to set up the overtime heroics. Maryville looked for an opening, and Mickett passed the ball over the top to Simonson who received the ball on the right side of the cage. Simonson collected the pass and fired in a sweeping shot just under the bar for the game-winning goal.

The win is a school-record 14th on the season for Maryville and the fourth consecutive overtime victory.
