Maryville Tallies Highest Directors Cup Finish in School History

CLEVELAND – The Maryville University Athletic Department set a new program record for its highest finish in the Division II LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, placing 46th among nearly 300 NCAA Division II institutions. Continued improvement across all sports was capped off by the highest-scoring spring in school history, helping the Saints land in the top 50 for the first time since joining NCAA Division II.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish at the NCAA Championships in up to 15 sports, four of which must be men's and women's basketball, baseball and volleyball. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's website at www.directorscup.org.

Maryville totaled 387 points, surpassing the 100-point mark in the fall, winter, and spring seasons for the first time in school history. The spring season proved to be the most successful, tallying 153 points behind deep NCAA Tournament runs by both men's and women's lacrosse, while women's golf made its first-ever appearance in the national tournament.

In the winter, women's bowling led the way with a fifth-place national finish — the highest among Maryville's winter sports — while wrestling contributed significant points after sending just three athletes to Nationals in Indianapolis. Two of those wrestlers claimed national titles, propelling the team to a ninth-place finish overall.

In the fall, men's and women's soccer powered the Saints' efforts as both programs earned NCAA Tournament bids.

Maryville finished third among Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) institutions, trailing only UIndy (4th) and Lewis (11th).
