ST. LOUIS – The Maryville men's soccer team earned its first clean sheet victory of Great Lakes Valley Conference action, defeating the William Jewell Cardinals 2-0.
Sebastian Weitlaner was responsible for both goals, scoring them within a minute of each other.
Jose Vilela and
Tommy Barrell provided assists. The Saints now move to 3-1-1 on the season, with a 2-0 record in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a quiet first 45 minutes that saw the Saints outshoot the Cardinals 7-1, it was all MU in the second half. Weitlaner scored his first in the 49th minute, then added another in the 50th, both from within feet of the goal.
That was all the Saints needed, as they controlled possession for the majority of the second half.
Asgrimur Vidisson made two saves, while
Simon Schlunder played the full 90 minutes on the defensive side of the ball.
