Hunt’s First-Half Goal Sends Saints to Fifth-Straight Win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For just the second time this season, the No. 14-ranked Maryville women's soccer team played away from home, but the change in scenery didn't affect the Saints as they defeated the Rockhurst Hawks 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Ashlyne Hunt scored her fourth goal of the year in the win, also marking her third game winner in the process. Coming in the 36th minute of play, Hunt now sits at 30 career goals while donning the Big Red M.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was even on the shots front, with both sides managing six apiece. With just under ten minutes left in the first half, Helene Braren sent a ball up toward Elsa Nilson-Hurtig, who let it roll past with a clever dummy, leaving it perfectly set up for the speedster in Hunt. She went on to outpace the Hawks lone defender and their goalie, squeezing it into the bottom left corner of the goal.

The goal ended up being the decider as the Saints registered seven more shots but were unable to find the dagger. Agnes Vilen in net recorded five saves, her season high on the year, while also recording her third clean sheet in a row.

BATTLE OF THE CO-OPOTY
Nilson-Hurtig, just a year removed from earning Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors, faced off against the woman she shared that trophy with, in the Hawks' Anna Lantz. Despite neither player finding the back of the net, Nilson-Hurtig did outshot Lantz 4-3.
