Saints Settle for 0-0 Draw in Battle of GLVC Powers

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 11-ranked Maryville women's soccer team, who was predicted to finish first in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), battled the team that sat a spot below them in that poll in the Drury Panthers in Springfield, Mo., tonight. The score after 90 minutes of play ended as it started, 0-0, as the Panthers successfully snapped the Saints five-game winning streak.

Drury led both squads in shots, taking 11 in the contest, forcing sophomore Saints' goalkeeper Agnes Vilen to register four saves en route to her fourth-straight clean sheet. The young keeper from Heby, Sweden now carries 13 clean sheets to her name over her Saints career.

Helene Braren and Allison Estanich were responsible for the two lone shots on goal for the Saints in the contest, both coming in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ashlyne Hunt, who leads the GLVC in game-winning goals, attempted to grab an early lead for the Saints, taking the first shot of the game in the fifth minute of play. The action would be steady to build for both sides as the first half ended with just four shots being taken all 45 minutes.

Vilen was quickly tested in the second period as a ball was placed on frame, but scooped up by the sophomore. That set the tone as the Panthers peppered the Saints with shots, with three coming from the 65th to the 67th with Vilen adding two more saves in the process.

Estanich's shot on goal came in the 75th with Braren taking hers in the 83rd. A late scramble for offense for both sides came as Drury were set up for a corner with just seconds left on the clock but a stout defensive set by the Saints stifled the chance at the upset.
