ROLLA, Mo. – The Maryville women's team secured its second-straight draw on the road today, battling back from an early deficit against the Missouri S&T Miners to earn a 1-1 result.Â
Freshman forward
Sophia Carter delivered the game-tying goal with five minutes remaining, the second score of her career. The Saints' offensive pressure forced six saves from the Miners' goalkeeper, while Maryville's defense limited S&T to just one shot on target.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Missouri S&T wasted no time, scoring within the opening minute to take an early lead. The early goal challenged the Saints, who quickly regained composure and took control of possession, generating three shots before the Miners could respond. Maryville's backline then held firm for the remainder of the first half, keeping S&T in their half.
The Saints came out aggressively in the second half, generating four shots, led by
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig and
Helene Braren. Maryville continued to press, and their persistence paid off in the 85th minute when Carter surprised the Miners with an unexpected shot from 25 yards out, finding the back of the net to tie the game.Â
Following the goal, Maryville earned two free kicks in the attacking third, creating strong opportunities to win the contest, but they were unable to convert. From there, the Saints maintained pressure but could not find a winner, leaving Rolla, Mo., with a hard-earned 1-1 draw.
