LIBERTY, MO. –
Henry Sanchez finished with 20 points but the Maryville men's basketball suffered through a long scoring drought in the first half as William Jewell steadily pulled away Thursday night. The Cardinals found the range from deep in the first half and made 12 triples en route to a 121-59 decision.
Preston Clark added 16 points, while
Eric Hackett added 13 points.
Kobe Clark grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Eric Hackett nailed a 3-pointer to open the scoring and give the Saints a quick lead. The Cardinals took a 7-3 advantage before Hackett hit a pair at the free-throw line.
Preston Clark found the range from deep as the Saints pulled to within 12-8.
Kobe Clark nailed another 3-pointer for Maryville, and one free throw by
Greg Ballard cut the deficit to 21-12 with 11 minutes to play in the opening half. However, the Cardinals got hot from beyond the field and hit 10-of-15 shots, including four 3-pointers.
Henry Sanchez sank a pull-up jumper to end the Maryville dry spell.
Preston Clark and Hackett scored on back-to-back possessions in the second half to give the offense a lift, and
Henry Sanchez connected on a wing 3-pointer. The Saints picked up their deep shooting and hit seven 3-pointers in the second half.
