Saints Shoot Down William Jewell 83-49 as Rigdon Tallies 17 Points

LIBERTY, MO. – Madyson Rigdon scored 17 points, all in the first half, as the Maryville women's basketball team cruised past William Jewell 83-49. The Saints outscored the Cardinals 28-7 in the second quarter to pull away for the road victory. Maryville shot 62.5 percent in the second while holding the Cardinals to just three field goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints used an early 11-0 run to take control. Alicia Burgos hit a short jumper before Rigdon scored six consecutive points. She had two free throws followed by back-to-back jumpers. Lindsey Schadewalt sank one free throw followed by another pair at the stripe from Rigdon for an 11-2 advantage. The Saints led 17-13 after the opening 10 minutes.
 
The Saints used a huge 25-2 second quarter burst to pull away. Rigdon scored seven points as Maryville's advantage grew to 33-16. After a WJC bucket, the Saints tallied 12 points in-a-row. Bree Shannon connected from deep, and the Saints sank four free throws. A triple by Adylan Ayer pushed the Saints on top 45-18. Maryville hit 9-of-13 shots during the spree while limiting the Cardinals to just 1-of-8 shooting. The Saints took a 45-20 lead into halftime.
 
In the third, Claire Lueken scored inside, and Shannon tacked on one free throw. A layup by Ayer pushed the edge back up to 50-28. Helen Ben took over with five straight points as the advantage ballooned to 55-30. The Saints were up 59-33 after three, led by as many as 34 and cruised to the victory. All 12 Saints who played in the contest scored at least two points.
