PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Maryville baseball team fell 13-3 to Pittsburg State on Friday afternoon at Al Ortolani Field. The Gorillas used a pair of big innings and two home runs to hand the Saints the series opening loss.

Pittsburg State jumped out early, capitalizing on an error and a two-run homer in the first to build a 3-0 advantage. The Gorillas added three more in the third and two in the fourth to stretch the lead to 8-1. Sandwiched between the Pitt State scoring frames,

Dominic Sharp on a fielders choice to break the shutout.
Pitt State added another in the sixth, with the Saints responding with a
Justin Gorski two-run homer in the seventh to inch closer into the ballgame.

The runs came too little too late at the high-powered Pitt State offense added three ore in the eighth to end it.

The final two game at Al Ortolani Field have been moved to a Sunday doubleheader due to weather conditions in Pittsburg, Kan. Game one will start at noon with the finale to follow.
