FAYETTE, IOWA – The Maryville women's basketball team shot better than 50 percent in the second half and pulled away to record a 79-53 triumph at Upper Iowa.
Lindsey Schadewalt drained five 3-pointers and led four Saints in double figures with 19 points.
Adylan Ayer finished with 14 points,
Gracie Gopalan had 12, while
Madyson Rigdon tacked on 10 points. The Saints committed just six turnovers on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied at 29-29 at halftime, the Saints scored the first eight points of the third quarter.
Annika Pluemer hit two free throws, and
Alicia Burgos powered up for a layup. Gopalan converted on a drive before a Burgos jumper put the Saints ahead 37-29. Up by six, Maryville went on an 8-2 surge. Ayer hit two straight jumpers, and Schadewalt knocked down a jumper. A free throw by Pluemer built a 47-35 advantage. Rigdon drained a triple as the Saints took their biggest lead of the quarter at 50-38. Ayer nailed a jumper at the buzzer and tacked on a free throw to put the Saints ahead 55-43 after three quarters.

Maryville's margin stood at 62-49 midway through the fourth before it took control with a 10-2 run. Schadewalt splashed a triple, and
Claire Lueken converted back-to-back layups. Schadewalt ended the burst with another 3-pointer to stack a 72-51 advantage with 3:36 to play. The Saints defense held the Peacocks without a point the final three minutes to put the game away.
