ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's basketball team shutout Indianapolis for more than nine minutes in the third quarter and pulled away for a 67-37 victory Saturday afternoon.
Lindsey Schadewalt paced the Saints with 16 points and had six rebounds, while
Gracie Gopalan had 11 points and a season-high eight rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints lead 21-17 at halftime before UIndy scored on its first possession of the third quarter to make it 21-19 with 9:27 to play in the frame. The Maryville defense forced the Greyhounds in to missing 12 straight shots and all four free throws as the Saints scored 14 straight points to take control.
Helen Ben hit two free throws and a layup to start the run.
Gracie Gopalan knocked down a 3-pointer as the lead reached double digits.
Madyson Rigdon sank a jumper, and
Olivia Hahn drained a triple. Ben scored on a drive late in the quarter for a 35-19 lead. Maryville held UIndy to 1-of-13 shooting (7.7 percent) in the quarter.

UIndy finally scored after more than 10 minutes of play before the Saints reeled off another 10-2 surge. Schadewalt drilled a 3-pointer and a layup. After a UIndy score, she converted a three-point play, and a triple by
Annika Pluemer pushed the Saints ahead 45-23. Schadewalt sank a deep triple for a 48-27 margin and the Saints steadily pulled away in the fourth.
