Saints Baseball Four-Game Win Streak Ended by No. 9 Grand Valley State

ST. LOUIS - The Maryville baseball team had its four-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of No. 9 Grand Valley State. The Lakers used solo home runs to power to a 6-0 win Friday afternoon.

The Lakers put two on in the top of the first but Braeden Sunken induced a grounder to end the threat. In the bottom of the frame, Jace Burton laced a double to centerfield. Dominic Sharp was hit by a pitch to put two on with one out. However, the Saints hit into a double play to end the threat. GVSU got a runner on board in the second but Sunken picked the runner off to end the inning.

The Lakers broke through for the only runs the would need in third inning on back-to-back solo home runs. GVSU added another solo shot in the fourth. Dominic Anselmo singled to start the bottom of the fifth and reached second on a wild pitch. However, he was stranded in scoring position.

Justin Gorski started the bottom of the sixth with a single but the Saints hit into another double play to extinguish the threat. The Lakers tacked on single runs late to put the game out of reach. Collin Bradley kept the Saints offense in check and only allowed three base hits in going the distance.

The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday, March 14, with first pitch scheduled for Noon at Weber Field.
