Men's Volleyball Sweeps Match and Weekend Against Quincy

ST. LOUIS  – The Maryville men's volleyball team closed out a weekend sweep of Quincy with its second straight three-setter over the Hawks and claimed its 11th straight victory. The Saints prevailed 25-19, 27-25, 25-20 in an important match at the top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings.  Makai Scott hammered down 16 kills on a .438 hitting percentage, while Tristan Benbow had eight kills on nine swings for an .889 hitting mark. Jake Usher nearly had a double-double with 33 assists and nine digs and directed the Maryville offense to a .366 hitting percentage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Out of the gate, the Saints scored the first three points and five of the first six to grab the early momentum. The Maryville defense had two blocks and forced two QU hitting errors. The Saints still led 13-10 but scored three straight to add on to their advantage. The margin was still six before the Saints made another rush. After a QU error, Tyler Sobieralski served an ace, and Aidan Whitemountain recorded a solo block. A QU error made it 21-12. Scott's kill ended the opener 25-19.
 
Quincy led for most of set two before the Saints rallied. The gap was 20-17 but the Saints scored four straight points. QU had an error before Scott and AJ Robateau teamed up on a block. After a Scott kill, QU's hitting error gave the Saints a 21-20 lead. The Hawks edged back in front 24-23 but another kill by Scott saved the set point. Quincy scored again but an error tied the set at 25-all. Whitemountain had a kill, and a setting mix-up by the Hawks ended the set 27-25.

The Saints were leading 8-7 before reeling off four straight points. After a Quincy error, Usher served an ace. Jayden Rookhuyzen and Benbow recorded a block before Scott's kill built a 12-7 lead for the Saints. QU had a service error before Scott and Rookhuyzen's kills made it 15-8. The Saints stacked onto their lead and built the advantage to 22-13. The Hawks tied to rally but a serve that went wide ended the match at 25-20.
