Saints Use Pair of Comeback Wins to Extend Win Streak to Nine

ST. LOUIS – Make that nine wins in a row for Maryville baseball, as the Saints earned a pair of wins over the William Jewell Cardinals in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action at Weber Field. The Saints, now a perfect 11-0 in league play, fell behind in both contests but scored late runs to secure the series.

On the offensive side, Eddie Uschold led all Saints with four RBIs across the two games, hitting his first career home run in Game 1 before going 2-for-3 in Game 2 with a pair of RBIs.

Pitching was highlighted by left-handed dominance, as Ryan Hoshaw picked up the win in the opener. In Game 2, Brayden Rubel delivered an 11-strikeout complete game, marking both a career high in strikeouts and his first career complete game at Maryville.

GAME 1 | Maryville 8, William Jewell 2
Jewell jumped out early, plating a pair off Hoshaw in the first inning—one on an RBI single and another on an RBI groundout—to put the Saints in an early hole.

Greyson Rathgeb used a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half, but the offense stalled until the fifth. Hoshaw settled in, tossing clean innings in the third, fourth and fifth, with the latter marking the turning point for the Saints' bats.

It started with a Matthew Rauser hit-by-pitch and a perfectly placed bunt single by Jace Burton to put two on for the red-hot Jack Meyer. Meyer lined a ball into left field to score Rauser and tie the game. Steven Schneider followed with a single to left, scoring both Burton and Meyer to give the Saints the lead.

Maryville added on in the sixth, as Burton and Meyer each recorded RBIs before Uschold belted his first career home run to put the game on ice.

A leadoff double in the seventh was stranded, as Colin Greiner picked up his fourth save of the season.

GAME 2 | Maryville 8, William Jewell 3
Scoring was limited until the fourth inning, when the offenses combined for nine runs. A three-run home run by the Cardinals once again gave them the lead, marking the third straight game in which Jewell scored first in the series.

Maryville responded immediately.

Meyer led off the inning with a double to spark a stretch of three consecutive doubles, producing two runs and cutting the deficit to 3-2. With a new pitcher on the mound, Aaris Stolte ripped a single through the right side to tie the game. One batter later, Rauser completed the comeback with a two-run single up the middle.

Burton capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field, extending the lead to 6-3.

Meyer added an RBI single in the sixth, while Uschold chipped in with a sacrifice fly to push the final margin to 8-3.
