ST. LOUIS  – In a collision of the top two teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Maryville men's volleyball team had its 15-match winning streak come to an end as Rockhurst prevailed 3-2. The Hawks won 21-25, 26-24, 25-18, 20-25, 15-7.
Makai Scott had 18 kills, while
Jake Usher had a near triple-double with 33 assists, 11 digs and seven kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one was tied 20-20 before the Saints scored three points in a row. Scott had two straight kills and solo block for a 23-20 lead. The Hawks scored one but Maryville picked up a point on a Rockhurst error, and a block by
Jayden Rookhuyzen and
AJ Robateau ended the set at 25-21.

Rockhurst took sets two and three before the Saints forced a decisive fifth set. Clinging to a 20-18 lead, Maryville earned some separation with three straight points.
Aidan Whitemountain had a kill and Rockhurst committed an error. Rookhuyzen and
Luke Martinez put up a block, and Martinez tacked on a kill. The Hawks scored a point but the Saints won the set 25-20 on a service error to force the final set.

The Hawks were up 3-2 before scoring four of the next five points. Rockhurst had an error and a solo block by Martinez pulled the Saints to 8-6. However, the Hawks reeled off six straight points to take command. Martinez and Usher combined on a block but Rockhurst held on for a 15-7 lead.
