No. 7 Saints Men's Lacrosse Drops Ranked Battle at No. 20 Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, MO. – In an important matchup at the top of the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings between ranked teams, the No. 7 Maryville men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-5 decision at No. 20 Rockhurst Saturday. The Saints outshot the Hawks 44-34 overall and 25-16 via shots on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks opened the clash with two straight goals before Wyatt Robertson answered for the Saints. He collected a pass from Jack Tocko and fired in a goal to bring the Saints to 2-1. The Hawks tacked on a goal to make it 3-1 after the opening quarter. The Saints looked to chip away at the deficit and fired 10 shots on goal but were unable to add a second score. The Hawks only had three shots on frame but scored twice to take a 5-1 lead at halftime.

Shea Raeburn gave the Saints an immediate lift as he won the third quarter faceoff and deposited a goal just six seconds in. However, that would be the lone Maryville goal as the Hawks tacked on four more scores. The Saints tried to rally in the fourth as Arley Wasson slotted home a goal, and Reid Usrey's score pulled the Saints to within 9-4. Rockhurst made it 10-4 before Griffin Johnson answered to make it 10-5 but the Saints never got any closer. Rockhurst goalie Brock Ollila made 20 saves to slow down the Maryville attack.
