Saints Drop Narrow 3-2 Medal-Match Play GLVC Semifinal Contest to UMSL

PERU, IND. – The Maryville women's golf team had its run in the 2026 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship end in the medal-match play semifinals. The No. 2 seed Missouri-St. Louis edged the third-seeded Saints 3-2 Sunday morning at Rock Hollow Golf Club.
 
Chloe Fong was the first match out and fell behind early. Down by four shots heading to the ninth hole of the day, she picked up three shots with a birdie while her UMSL opponent made a double bogey. She was still only down by one shot after 12 holes but dropped three shots on the next two holes and never got any closer.
 
Kelly Wang took a one-shot lead on the fourth hole but the match was tied after seven. She took another one stroke lead on the eight hole and pushed her edge to three after a par on the 11th hole of the day. However, her UMSL opponent eventually tied the match on the 17th hole. However, Wang made a par on the final hole while her opponent made a bogey as Wang won one up.
 
Kylie Yiengst picked up a shot on the first hole of play but then slipped behind by their third hole. Down by five strokes, she rallied and picked up one shot on four straight holes and was just one shot down at the turn. She pulled even on the 12th hole and took a one-shot lead on the next. However, the match swung on hole 15 as she went down by two shots and wasn't able to pull back the margin.
 
Maddie Vanderheyden fell behind by a one stroke lead on the third hole of the day. She birdied the fourth and fifth holes of the match to take a one-shot edge. Vanderheyden went one stroke down on the sixth hole and dropped another shot on seven. She pulled one stroke back as they made the turn to the front side. However, Vanderheyden lost shots on the next four holes to fall in her match.
 
Fernanda Diaz-Pizarro won the opening hole by a shot but was down by one on hole three. She trailed by three shots but pulled one stroke back by the turn. Diaz-Pizarro had a two shot swing on 10 as she carded a birdie while her opponent made bogey. She went back up by a shot on 12 and the match was tied after 15. Diaz-Pizarro picked up two shots on 16 with a par while her foe made a double. She gave one shot back on 17 but held on for the one up win with a par on 18.
