ST. LOUIS - Â The Maryville men's volleyball team advanced to the finals of the 2026 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament with a 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of Roosevelt in the tourney semifinals.
Makai Scott hit .379 with 15 kills and 12 digs to boost the Saints attack.
Aidan Whitemountain hit .500 with 10 kills. During the contest, Scott broke the Maryville single-season kills record with his 332nd of the year to surpass the previous mark by
Luke Kraft.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints slowly built a seven-point lead in set one but the Lakers rallied. Roosevelt got as close as 21-18 but Scott had a kill and teamed with Benbow on a block for a 23-18 margin. The Lakers tallied two straight but Benbow had back-to-back kills to close the set.

The Lakers took their first substantial lead of the match and held it for most of set two. The Saints were down 21-18 before two Laker errors. Maryville was down 22-20 but surged with four straight points. Whitemountain's kill started the run, and
AJ Robateau followed with a termination. The Saints defense forced consecutive errors for set point at 24-22. Roosevelt saved one but Scott drilled down a kill to came the rally 25-23.

The Saints led by as many as four points at 14-10 but Roosevelt closed to within one. Up 17-16, the Saints reeled off a 4-0 run. Scott had two kills and a Roosevelt miscue and a Benbow kill made it 21-16. The Lakers got as close as three points but
Jayden Rookhuyzen's kill forced a match point. The Saints closed out the match on a Scott kill at 25-21. Maryville hit .317 in the match while limiting Roosevelt to just a .190 mark.
