ROLLA, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team was held to just four hits as Missouri S&T used late-inning offense to pull away for a 6-1 win on Saturday at the Ballpark at S&T.
The Saints kept things within reach through much of the afternoon, but a pair of multi-run innings by the Miners in the seventh and eighth proved to be the difference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maryville's lone run came in the sixth inning. After
Jace Burton drew a walk and
Jack Meyer was hit by a pitch,
Dominic Anselmo delivered an RBI single through the left side to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Saints threatened further in the frame with two runners in scoring position, but Missouri S&T escaped the jam to maintain the lead.
Anselmo led the Saints offensively, going 2-for-3 with the lone RBI, while
Steven Schneider also recorded a multi-hit day, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
On the mound,
Nolan Miller kept Maryville in the contest, tossing six innings while allowing three runs on nine hits. The right-hander worked around traffic throughout his outing to give the Saints a chance heading into the late innings.
Missouri S&T created separation in the seventh, capitalizing on an error and timely hitting to plate two runs, before adding two more in the eighth on a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1.
