SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Maryville baseball team dropped the series to the Drury Panthers, falling in the final game 8-4.
Maryville plated three in the first inning on sloppy Panther pitching, but Drury rallied and used a four-run seventh to take the finale of the series.
Matthew Rauser was the lone Saint to tally multiple hits as the Saints were held to just five all contest. Runners on continued to be a struggle as the Saints left nine runners on base, despite walking eight time.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A game leadoff single by Rauser kicked off the action in the Saturday finale. Walks by
Jace Burton and
Jack Meyer loaded the bases with a wild pitch scoring Rauser from third. Another walk, this time by
Nick Daugherty who made his first start coming back from injury, stacked the bases yet again, with Brady Kindhardt scoring the second run of the inning on a bases-loaded free pass. The Saints were unable to plate any more, leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first.
Drury responded with runs in the first, second and third innings to tie it at 3-3 going into the top of the fourth. Maryville forced a Drury pitching changed in the top of the fifth after another walk and a
Steven Schneider RBI double gave the Saints the lead yet again.
Those would be the last runs the Saints would score as the four-spot in the seventh snatched the lead from the Saints, one the Panthers never relinquished.
