Saints Explode for 17 Runs in Doubleheader Split Against UMSL

ST. LOUIS – It was a tale of two vastly different game for the Maryville baseball team as they squared off against the Missouri- St. Louis Tritons. The Saints dropped game one of the twin bill 4-0 to UMSL but exploded for a season-high 17 runs in game two for a 17-0 victory.

The Saints were held to just four hits and no runs in game one, but tallied 22 hits in game two, scoring runs in all seven innings of the nightcap.

Zane Timon led all Saints in hits in game two, going 4 for 4 with three runs scored. On the RBI front, Justin Gorski tallied a team high four RBIs, three coming on a three-run home run.

GAME 1 | UMSL 4, Maryville 0
UMSL, for the second game in a row, plated runs in the first, scoring what would be the decider just three batters into the game on a double into the alley in right center.

The Tritons would plate runs in the fourth and the sixth while Maryville was only able to get hits in the third, fifth and sixth. The Saints struggled with runners on, leaving eight on base, with the bases left loaded in the second.

GAME 2 | Maryville 17, UMSL 0
In about as stark of a contrast as you can ask for, the Saint's bats erupted for runs in every inning of the second affair.

The biggest blows came in the second and the fourth where Maryville plated three each, and then a final seven spot in the sixth to earn the overwhelming score.

Every Saint that took an at bat recorded a hit, with Matthew Rauser, Jace Burton, Jack Meyer, Dominic Anselmo, Tim Leark and Timon all recording doubles.

Not to be outshined, Brayden Rubel was dominant from the mound, going six strong while striking out four and allowing four hits. Owen Nesslage recorded a three strikeout seventh to end the contest.
