Saints Outpace Greyhounds in Mid-Week Battle

INDIANAPOLIS – Three goals in the opening 19 minutes sent the Maryville women's soccer team racing past the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, 4-0, in the Saints' last trip to the Circle City for Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Hailey Scheuer opened the scoring, going bar down in the third minute, before Helene Braren (9:17) and Carissa Speight (18:01) added to the early barrage.

Karla Krebs capped the scoring in the final minutes, converting a free kick to secure the 4-0 victory.

Braren and Scheuer each added an assist to go with their goals.

Agnes Vilen and Sophia Sulawske split halves in net, with Sulawske recording the Saints' lone save in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints applied pressure off the rip, marching deep into Greyhound territory. A free kick by Braren skipped forward to Scheuer, who ripped a shot off the crossbar and in for the early score.

Ava Ernst kept the pressure on, taking a shot just five seconds after the ensuing kickoff to keep the Saints firmly in UIndy's half.

A run by Braren in the 10th minute ended with the forward blasting a shot into the right side of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

Action stayed firmly in UIndy's half of the pitch, with four more Maryville shots coming before Scheuer sent a pass to Speight for the Saints' third goal.

The Saints kept pushing for more, but the Greyhounds held off the attack for the remainder of the first half.

UIndy tested the Saints defensively in the second half, but steady backline play limited the Greyhounds' chances.

Eventually, the Saints wore down the defense enough to earn a free kick just outside the box in the 86th minute. Krebs did the honors, blasting a shot into the top right corner for the first goal of her Maryville career.
