Saints Travel to UIS; Host Quincy

THIS WEEK
Coming off a victory over William Jewell, Maryville men’s basketball looks to build a winning streak with a 7:45 p.m. game at Illinois-Springfield Thursday, Jan. 26. The Saints return home for a 3:15 p.m. tilt versus Quincy Saturday, Jan. 28.
 
ABOUT ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars are 9-9 overall, 6-3 in the GLVC and tote a three-game winning streak. Jermaine Love-Roberts tops UIS with 15.4 ppg, while Michael Fakuade leads the GLVC in rebounding at 11.4 rpg and blocked shots at 3.79 per game.The Prairie Stars score 72.8 ppg while giving up 73.9 74.7 ppg.
 
ABOUT QUINCY
The Hawks are 12-5 overall, 5-4 in the league and have won two straight. Justin Brock leads QU with 16.3 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Courtney Belger adds 12.5 ppg and has handed out 62 assists. The Hawks average 75.1 ppg and surrender 67.8 ppg.
 
MORE ON MARYVILLE
Sophomore Asa Toney leads the Saints in scoring at 11.9 ppg, is second on the team with 41 assists and 22 steals. Junior Gerald Shaw is second on the team with 9.9 ppg and has a team-high 33 3-pointers. Junior Ryan Shotkoski tops the team with 44 assists and steals with 25. In the last NCAA report (Jan. 23), the Saints rank 19th in the country in field goal percentage and are converting at a 49.7 percent clip from the field. Maryville is 15th in the country in 3-point field goals made with 9.0 per game and 31st in 3-point field goal percentage at 39.0. Head coach Kevin Carroll is in his second year at Maryville and has compiled a 16-26 overall record.

RECAPPING WILLIAM JEWELL
Asa Toney poured in 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting to guide the Saints past William Jewell 67-52. Gerald Shaw hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, while Jacob Woods came off the bench to add 10 points. Maryville shot 61.9 percent from the field in the second half to pull away.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Maryville takes to the road for two games next week. They take on William Jewell in a rematch Thursday, Jan. 26, then head to face Rockhurst Saturday, Jan. 28.
