Women's Basketball Looks to Build on Three-Game Winning Streak

THIS WEEK
The Saints look to build on their three-game winning streak. First up is a 5:30 p.m. contest at Illinois-Springfield Thursday, Jan. 26. Maryville returns home to Moloney Arena Saturday, Jan. 28, when Quincy comes to town for a 1 p.m. game.

ABOUT ILLINOIS-SPRINGFIELD
The Prairie Stars are 8-9 overall, 3-5 in the GLVC and had a two-game winning streak end versus Drury. Alyssa Palmer tops the team at 14.1 ppg, with Megan Bergerud and Baily Beale at 11.9 ppg and 11.8 ppg, respectively. Elizabeth Kelly is one of the top rebounders in the GLVC at 8.7 rpg. The Prairie Stars score 65.4 ppg and allow 68.2 ppg.
 
ABOUT QUINCY
The Hawks are 11-6 overall, 6-3 in the GLV and have won two straight. Ali Schwagmeyer and Linsay Henke form a powerful duo. Schwagmeyer leads the team with 15.4 ppg and averages 7.9 rpg, while Henke adds 13.5 ppg, shoots a GLVC-high 57.6 percent from the field and a conference-best 9.0 rpg. The Hawks average a league-high 73.6 ppg and give up 65.1 ppg. Quincy leads the GLVC in assists at 16.2 per game and 3-pointers made at 8.3 per game.
 
MORE ON MARYVILLE
Maryville returns all five starters from a squad that posted an 11-15 overall record, 6-12 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior forward Abby Duethman leads the way with 14.5 ppg and 7.6 rpg. She is shooting 51.5 percent from the field and is second on the team with 36 assists. Freshman guard Shelby Miller is second on the team with 10.8 ppg and has hit 27 3-pointers to go along with 34 steals. Sophomore guard JoAnn Thompson leads the team with 46 assists and 35 steals. The Saints are 30th in the nation in 3-point field goals per game at 6.9.

RECAPPING WILLIAM JEWELL
Shelby Miller had a steal and hit both ends of a one-and-one with 6.9 seconds left as the Saints downed William Jewell 64-60. Abby Duethman and Alissa Oney led Maryville with 13 points apiece, while Miller finished with 11 points. JoAnn Thompson had a tremendous all-around game with eight points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
 
THAT IS WHY THEY ARE FREE
Maryville is shooting a sparkling 80.9 percent (246-of-304) from the charity stripe to lead the country (as of Jan. 24). Shelby Miller leads the team at 88.1 percent (37-of-42), while Kate Childs is hitting 87.9 percent (29-of-33). Abby Duethman is converting at 86.4 percent (57-of-66) at the stripe.
 
HOME COOKING
The Saints are undefeated at home this season and have won eight straight in Moloney Arena.
 
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Abby Duethman has scored 902 points in her career and is on pace to surpass the 1,000-point plateau this season. She can become the seventh Maryville player to reach that mark.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Saints take a swing to the western side of Missouri as they face rematches with William Jewell and Rockhurst. The Saints face William Jewell Thursday, Feb. 2, and then head to Kansas City Saturday, Feb. 4, to take on Rockhurst.
