Box Score Quincy-Maryville Boxscore
The Maryville men’s basketball team suffered through a cold-shooting afternoon and dropped a 61-42 decision to Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday. The uncharacteristic
shooting struggles caused the Saints to fall behind early, and the deficit was too much to overcome as the Hawks won their third straight game. Maryville’s 34.2 shooting percentage was its lowest of the season and just the second time it has converted less than 40 percent from the field.
The Hawks were hot out of the gate and scored the first 15 points of the game. Asa Toney finally got the Saints on the scoreboard with an inside hoop. However, the Saints saw their deficit reach more than 20 points as they continued to misfire. Quincy eventually took a 26-point lead at halftime. The Saints rank 21st in the country in field goal percentage at 49.1 but posted only a 20-percent mark in the first half. The Saints started to find their shooting touch in the second half. Maryville hit 6-of-13 from 3-point range after halftime to try and mount a rally. The Saints closed to 59-41 on a trey by Gerald Shaw with under three minutes left to go but that would prove to be the closest Maryville would get to the Hawks. The Saints converted half of their second-half shots (9-of-18).
Toney led the Saints (9-9, 3-8 GLVC) with 15 points but was the only Maryville player to reach double figures in scoring. Shaw scored nine points all on 3-pointers. Courtney Belger led three Quincy players in double digits with 15 points while Scott Hahn had a game-high eight rebounds.
