FOR OPENERS: To begin the 2012-13 season, the Maryville University men's basketball team hosts the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Nov. 10-11 at Moloney Arena. McKendree and Tiffin start the Challenge at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, and the Saints take on Ohio Dominican for a 3 p.m. start. Sunday, Maryville plays Tiffin at 2 p.m., and McKendree and Ohio Dominican clash at 4 p.m.
ABOUT OHIO DOMINICAN: The Panthers posted a 4-22 mark last season, 1-18 in the GLIAC. Senior guard Morgan Jones topped ODU last season with 12.7 points and 3.0 assists per game. In addition, he leads all returning players with a 3.6 rpg average.
ABOUT TIFFIN: The Dragons were 15-14 a year ago, 7-12 in the GLIAC. Joe Graessle leads all returning players in scoring at 17.9 ppg and added 4.0 rpg. He led Tiffin with 101 assists and was second with 39 steals. The junior guard also sank 91 3-pointers last season.
MORE ON MARYVILLE: Junior
Asa Toney led the Saints in scoring (12.3 ppg), steals (39) and assists (75) last year.
Gerald Shaw is the lone senior on the squad and was second on the team with 10.9 ppg and had a team-high 62 3-pointers. In the final NCAA report, Maryville finished 19th in the country in 3-point field goals made with 8.7 per game and 29th in scoring defense at 63.1. Head coach
Kevin Carroll is in his third year at Maryville and has compiled a 20-33 overall record.
FRESH FACES: The Saints have bolstered their roster with six new players, including three freshmen, to the squad this season. Also rejoining the team is
Darrin Young Jr. who missed the 2011-12 season due to a knee injury.

The Saints built an eight-point lead and led for a majority of the first half before falling 73-64 in their exhibition opener at Miami (Ohio).
Armon Provo led Maryville with 16 points, while
Trae Pemberton added 14 on 66.7 percent shooting and
Asa Toney chipped in 10 points.

LAST SEASON: The Saints nearly doubled their win total from the previous year and posted a 13-14 overall record, 6-12 in the Great Lakes Calley Conference. Maryville qualified for the GLVC Tournament before falling to eventual champion Southern Indiana. Last year, the Saints averaged 62.7 ppg on 47.2 percent shooting, 36.8 percent from 3-point range, 69.2 percent from the free-throw line. MU gave up 63.1 ppg and held its opponents to 43.1 percent shooting from the field.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Saints play two exhibition games against Division I teams in Nashville, Tenn. Maryville takes on Lipscomb Monday, Nov. 12, in a 5 p.m. start, then challenge Belmont Tuesday, Nov. 13, in a 6 p.m. tip.
