Asa Toney scored 26 points as the Maryville men’s basketball team rallied in the second half for a 75-72 victory at Lincoln University Wednesday evening in Jefferson City, Mo. The win is the 10th of the season for the Saints who swept the season series over the Blue Tigers.

Lincoln scored the first six points of the game but the Saints answered with 12 straight points on four consecutive 3-pointers to surge ahead 12-6 five minutes into the game. Armon Provo hit a 3-pointer to get Maryville on the scoreboard, and Gerald Shaw followed with a trey to tie the game. Trae Pemberton sank a shot from beyond the arc to put the Saints ahead, and Toney’s 3-pointer closed out the run. Maryville held a narrow advantage at 26-22 before the Blue Tigers used a 6-0 run to take the lead again. Lincoln settled for a 31-29 lead at halftime.

The Blue Tigers led 38-34 before the game settled into a taut affair. Darrin Young Jr. hit four straight free throws to forge the fifth tie of the game at 38-all with just under 15 minutes to play. Lincoln retook a lead 50-46 before the Saints charged back ahead. Provo hit a 3-pointer, and Shaw threw down a dunk to put Maryville ahead 51-50 at the eight-minute mark. Lincoln tied the game at 59-59 before the Saints took control with a 10-2 burst. Pemberton hit a long 3-pointer, and Provo scored inside. After Lincoln sank two free throws, Shaw stuck for a trey, and Toney drove for a layup and a 69-61 lead with three minutes to play.

Another dunk by Shaw gave the Saints a six-point lead but Charles Cole hit a 3-pointer to get the Blue Tigers to within three in the final minute. Max Mischkulnig calmly sank two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to give the Saints a 75-70 lead. Lincoln made two free throws to create a one-possession game. The Saints had a chance to seal the game but missed two free throws. However, Lincoln’s potential game-tying 3-pointer misfired as the Saints (10-2) picked up another road victory.
