Women's Basketball Heads to William Jewell and Rockhurst

THIS WEEK
After having their four-game winning streak snapped, the Saints (10-9 overall, 6-5 GLVC) look to return to their winning ways with two road contests. Maryville heads to William Jewell Thursday, Feb. 2. The Saints stay on the western side of the state and play at Rockhurst Saturday, Feb. 4. Maryville is sponsoring a free bus trip with free pizza for all students who would like to attend the Rockhurst game. ABOUT WILLIAM JEWELL
The Cardinals are 11-6 overall, 6-5 in the GLVC. Holley Switzer tops WJU with 11.7 ppg, and Chelsea Meeks and Katlyn Wood both chip in 9.8 ppg. Cassy Nicolay is the leading rebounder at 6.1 per game. The Cardinals average 62.6 ppg and give up only 58.0 ppg. WJU leads the league in steals at 12.4 per game. Maryville edged WJU 64-60 in Moloney Arena Jan. 21.
 
ABOUT ROCKHURST
The Hawks stand at 4-14 overall, 2-9 in the conference. Makayla Grahn is RU’s leading scorer at 9.8 ppg, and Chrissy Sarcone adds 8.9 ppg. Kara McFarland leads the rebounding efforts at 5.7 rpg. The Hawks only score 54.2 ppg and surrender just 59.9 ppg. The Saints prevailed 67-56 on Jan. 19 in St. Louis.
 
MORE ON MARYVILLE
Junior forward Abby Duethman leads the way with 14.7 ppg and 7.5 rpg. She is shooting 51.6 percent from the field and is second on the team with 39 assists. Freshman guard Shelby Miller is second on the team with 10.9 ppg and has hit 30 3-pointers to go along with 35 steals. Sophomore guard JoAnn Thompson leads the team with 55 assists and 36 steals. The Saints are 32nd in the nation in 3-point field goals per game at 6.8.

RECAPPING LAST WEEK
Abby Duethman poured in a career-high 27 points to guide the Saints past Illinois-Springfield 76-69. Quincy handed Maryville its first home loss of the season in a 66-42 decision Saturday. The Saints had won all eight of their home games prior to the QU contest.
 
THAT IS WHY THEY ARE FREE
Maryville is shooting a sparkling 80.7 percent (268-of-332) from the charity stripe to lead the country (as of Jan. 30). Shelby Miller leads the team and GLVC at 90.0 percent (45-of-50), while Abby Duethman is converting at 87.3 percent (62-of-71) at the stripe.
 
CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Abby Duethman has scored 936 points in her career and is on pace to surpass the 1,000-point plateau this season. She can become the seventh Maryville player to reach that mark.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Saints return home for the first of three straight home games. Maryville welcomes Drury for a 5:15 p.m. game Thursday, Feb. 9, and Missouri S&T in a 1 p.m. tilt Saturday, Feb. 11.
