Saints Shoot 59 Percent to Down Drury 73-55

Armon Provo hit 6-of-7 shots from the field and tied his career high with 17 points to lead four Maryville players in double figures as the Saints downed Drury 73-55. Maryville shot 72.7 percent in the second half (16-of-22) to pull away after halftime.
 
The Saints took the early lead and led 17-14. Asa Toney scored on a layup, and Gerald Shaw stole the ball and fed Provo for an easy fastbreak bucket for a 21-14 lead. The Panthers tallied five straight to cut the deficit to 21-19 with 4:51 left in the first half. Maryville answered by closing the half with an 11-3 run. The Saints were up 25-20 before Provo nailed a trey, and Jacob Dulle scored inside. Two free throws by Toney pushed the Maryville edge to 32-20 before taking a 32-22 lead at the break.
 
In the second half, the Saints led 34-26 before a trey by Provo and a layup by Corey Washburn built a 39-26 lead. Drury scored on a layup at the 17:02 mark but the Saints blitzed the visitors with 14 straight points. Shaw scored on a layup and added a 3-pointer. Toney added a deep shot from beyond the arc for a 47-28 margin. Shaw swiped the ball and scored on a breakaway layup, and Toney scored on a drive from the right side of the lane. Trae Pemberton had a steal and Provo scored as the Saints surged to a 53-28 lead with 13:28 to play. During the run, the Saints forced Drury into five turnovers. Drury finally hit a 3-pointer to break the drought, but two free throws by Toney and a Shaw hoop built Maryville’s biggest lead of the night at 57-31. The Saints’ lead did not dip below 20 until the waning moments of the contest.
 
Shaw finished with 16 points and had eight steals, tied for the second most in program history. Toney also tallied 16 points to go along with four assists and three steals. Pemberton had his second straight double-digit scoring game with 11 points. Dulle snared a game-high seven rebounds. Maryville shot 59.1 percent from the field in the contest. The victory is the third straight for the Saints as they improve to 12-10 overall, 5-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Drury falls to 13-9 overall, 7-7 in the GLVC.
